Objective

The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (the ACFE) had redesigned their website back in 2013 and ended up with a website in which they had to make many compromises in terms of design and functionality. After a second attempt internally, they realized they needed to partner with an outside agency who had the experience needed to bring this site to fruition.

Strategy

Enter Mighty Citizen. The ACFE had a wide variety of content that needed to be sorted through and mapped out. Using content guides, we made sense of the ACFE’s complicated membership process, e-commerce and event needs, and resource library.

We created an entirely new look and feel that better relayed the far-reaching reputation and trustworthiness of this organization.

Lighting the Way

Previously, ACFE’s website felt tired and dated, with a heavy use of the duller colors in the brand, a fixed-width band of content across larger screens, and a mobile view that was hard to read and less than optimized for smaller screen sizes. With the website redesign, we utilized a more energetic set of colors, integrating a brighter, accessible gold for buttons and links that contrasts sharply against the navy, and adapted aspects of the ACFE torch, implying a rays of light motif, where fraud examiners are indeed lighting the way and exposing fraud.

Creating an Easy-to-Use E-commerce Experience

ACFE had a variety of products, from trainings and events to manuals and merchandise, their e-commerce platform had to handle it all. Further complicating this was the variety of formats, versions, credit counts, and member discounts that had to be accounted for across products. We developed a flexible design system that could accommodate the variety of states needed per product type, point in the user journey, or confirmation/error scenarios.

A System of Iconography

Due to the more abstract nature of fraud examination, it became clear that we needed a system of icons that could quickly and easily portray information in a jargon-heavy industry.

Member Dashboards

Just as important as ACFE’s e-commerce and membership join user flows was the membership tools available after the fact. This dashboard allows members to track dues, products and resources either purchased or favorited, and a variety of other tools that help the member to maintain their Certified Fraud Examiner credential.
